Birdhive Creative notes on Privacy, data, and Cookies
What a world we live in!
Until laws in the United States are as robust as GDPR, we have to keep an eye on the places we visit online and where we enter our private data.
Here’s the nutshell version of the notes, and birdhive creative’s privacy policy:
Most of the data and cookies stored, but not all, is processed by Squarespace and your browser. I have created a link to the Squarespace privacy policy at the bottom of this page and outlined my understanding of their use below. Analytics and performance cookies are used to view site traffic, relative location of your IP address, activity, and other data which I cannot link to you, including whether you found our site with keyword searches, what pages you visited on the site, and internal links used. We use a cookie banner opt-in to authorize these cookies.
birdhive creative will never send spam email to you or share your personal data with anyone else. We are complying with GDPR regulations and you can unsubscribe from any mailing list that you join at any time.
Please, if you have concerns or questions about birdhive creative’s use of data, get in touch with us here.
Cookies
This website uses cookies and similar technologies, which are small files or pieces of text that download to a device when a visitor accesses a website. For information about viewing the cookies placed on your device, visit Squarespace’s Privacy Policy.
Functional and required cookies are always used, which allow Squarespace, our hosting platform, to securely serve this website to you. Squarespace needs the data to run this website, and to protect and improve its platform and services. Squarespace analyzes the data in a de-personalized form.
Analytics and performance cookies are used to view site traffic, location of your IP address, activity, and other data, including searches, pages visited, and internal links used. We use a cookie banner opt-in to authorize these.
Data cookies are just not as interesting or delicious as edible cookies.
Other Collected Information, email and newsletters
When you use a contact form on our site and enter your name and email address, and message, this information is forwarded to the email shown on our contact page via Spoonflower, in a direct link. The birdhivecreative.com address is in a secure mailbox which only receives email from the business addresses associated with birdhivecreative.com. Unless specifically asked not to reply to a message, Jen will review and reply from the address on the contact page, but your name and email will NOT be entered onto the newsletter list unless you agree for it to be submitted.
When you use a newsletter signup button, this information is saved in a Squarespace storage form which Jen can access to build her newsletter list. Squarespace has a streamlined sending system that will make sending email on her behalf less of a headache to set up.
We have set up Google reCaptcha to verify subscribers are humans and not spambots, and no data is collected for birdhive creative from the “captcha” link via Google. (sidetone: reCaptcha will be reinstated as soon as the OLD version can be found, the newer version we set up is not compatible with the site). We also send a confirmation email for you to click on with a note about the frequency of mail you can expect as well as a request to reply “yes” to your email * and if you would, add us to your contacts. These extra steps help ensure the email we send out gets to your inbox. We hope that you look forward to receiving mail from us !
If, as expected, these newsletters are sent directly from the site, then each email will have an unsubscribe link/button at the bottom which will automatically remove you from the mailing lists. If sent from the birdhivecreative.com address, then please just reply and add “unsubscribe to mailing list” in the subject line. Please make sure that the address you’re sending the unsubscribe request from is the one you signed up with - without the correct information I likely won’t be able to remove you from the list. Thank you!
* “light reading” about spam and data protection in the interest of getting it right for this site ~ did you know that if you reply to my messages, somehow the algorithms that measure these things shift to mark my birdhivecreative.com address as legitimate? It made sense once I realized that most spam addresses send thousands of emails but rarely get replies. Your email provider is (hopefully) getting better at sorting the email you open and read from the spam. Some email providers will automatically trash email from a sender whose email(s) you haven’t opened recently if they’re not in your contact list, so you’ll never see it.
